Okay, here's a story that I threw together last night. It's not scary yet, but that's how all scary stories are at first, right? So, for now it isn't scary. ^-^ I'll add on to it every once in a while. So, here it is so far.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The young squirrelmaid, Venn, stood in the sandy path, looking up in awe at the beautiful redstone building that stood ahead of her. Silently she made her way up the path, her eyes never leaving the wonderful view,
Redwall Abbey!
The young maid smiled wide, what a pleasant place to call home! She looked up at the starlit night sky for a moment to enjoy its beauty as a chilling wind silently blew past, and that was the only glance it took. When she looked back down she was greeted by two glowing eyes staring back up at her. Venn screamed and leapt back a step, eyes wide with terror. But the voice that spoke back to her was not at all scary.
"Ma'am? Why are you wandering around alone at such a time?" The little voice was that of a female, Venn could tell, but she still didn't know who or what it was.
"Y'scared me half to death!" Venn shrieked out, placing a paw to her chest. "And what am I doing wandering around at night? How about you? Wait, who are you?"
Venn watched the strange creature's silhouette bob a quick curtsy. "The names Sleerette Tristen, marm! But y'can just call me Ette! What might your name be?"
"The name's Venn. Just Venn."
"Well, Venn, just Venn, please t'meetcha! Now, like I asked before, what are you doing wandering around here alone at night, eh?"
Venn shrugged, "I was making my way towards that Abbey."
Ette giggled happily. "At this time? My, they're all probably snug in their beds sleeping. They'd never hear ya knockin'. And that old gatekeeper will sleep through almost everything and anything."
Venn sighed wearily and sat down on the path. "I suppose you're right. But Ette, how do you know such things about these Abbey creatures?"
Ette sat down alongside Venn and threw her arms up in the air. "I'm one meself!"
Venn slapped her forehead. "Of course!" She looked down at the glowing eyes, which seemed much more friendly now. "But why are you outside of your wonderful Abbey at such a time?"
"Couldn't sleep. I went wandering on the wall tops and saw you. I thought t'meself that I should greet you."
Venn was very surprised, and rather confused, "But how did you know I wasn't a vermin, or some beast causing trouble?"
"I have very keen eyesight, I could see that you were friendly. And vermin travel in groups. I could see that you were only one beast."
"Very clever." Venn stood up, wiping dirt off of her dressings. "now, can you get my into your Abbey?"
Ette stood up beside her new friend. "Ah yes! Of course. But 'tis not my Abbey! Oh no! It's the Abbot's! He's the leader of the whole place."
"That makes sense." Venn said, as she and Ette made their way towards Redwall. "Every building has a leader I suppose,"
Ette nodded and silently spoke, "Aye."
When they got the the face of the Abbey, Ette tugged on Venn's arms and brought her around one of the corners, where there was a door. Ette tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge. She grunted as she pushed at it some more.
"Bloody doors gone and swollen up again! All well." She relieved herself from the splintering door. "We'll just have to wake up old Thom."
Bang bang bang!
Ette banged on the Gatehouse door, while Venn waited silently beside her.
"Open up Thom!" Ette began shouting between bangs. "It's me, Ette! Now open up! Thom!"
This went on for a long period of time, but then they heard a commotion going on inside, and then the doors quietly opened with a silent creak.
Venn watched was the Gate Keeper appeared. He was a very young mouse, whom was still in his night gown and tiredly rubbing his eyes with his left paw, while he held a lantern with his right paw. He was nothing that Venn pictured him as. She pictured a very old creature. After all, Ette did call him "Old Thom" as a description.
Venn took advantage of the shining light and looked towards Ette. The light shown on her pretty features. She was an otter! Ette was an otter!
Ette turned and looked at Venn, winking. "Surprised, aren'tcha?"
Venn widened her eyes. "Surprised at what you are, or how old Thom is?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, there's some of it! I know, it's not scary.... yet! ^-^ Soon it will be much more better. You'll see.
